According to international regulations, after the incident in Chile in 2010, all underground mines must have, in addition to the main tunnel, a second evacuation route in case of emergency. This had already been applied before in the design of vehicle and train tunnels when they cross an entire mountain; they must have a service tunnel that is used as an emergency route in case of a fire.

The emergency route must have emergency lighting that turns on automatically to facilitate evacuation during the contingency and the autonomy or battery backup for emergency led strip lighting must be for a period where people have enough time to completely evacuate the tunnel and this period must not be less than 60 minutes, preferably 120 minutes.
